Grace’s Pickled Red Onions

Grace and her Dad joined us for a kebab and loaded fries competition for our live cook on Saturday 9 August 2025. There was a lot of fun had by Grace and Tony, her Dad, on the lead up to the day, both kept their cooks under wraps until the day.

Grace made some pickled red onions that she added to her loaded fries and kebab. Her Dad also stole some of the red onions to elevate his fries and kebab.

We each cooked a portion of loaded fries and a kebab:

Ingredients

  • 3 small red onions, finely sliced
  • 1 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 cup boiled water
  • 1  heaped tbsp salt
  • 1 heaped tbsp sugar

    Method

    1. Slice the red onions to your liking.
    2. Add the red wine vinegar, boiled water, salt and sugar to a heat proof container and mix together.
    3. Add the sliced red onions to the mixture and make sure they are all covered.
    4. Leave to pickle for at least 30 minutes.
