Introducing the Dual Zone Deflector Kit?

Brand new to the Big Green Egg is the Dual Zone Deflector Kit. The kit is a redesign of the existing EGGspander system basket, but it's designed to work with the two half-moon heat deflectors.

The kit has two pieces: a stainless steel Deflector Basket, and two ceramic Split Deflectors shaped like half-moons. A new Dual Zone Cooking Grid can be added, which comprises of two half moon stainless grids, made of heavy duty steel.

That's the clever part. Push both half-moons together in the bottom of the basket and they form a full circle — a complete indirect heat shield, exactly like your old ConvEGGtor, for low and slow cooks. The baskets legs are designed to make sure the two half moons sit right in the middle of your Egg.

Remove one half-moon heat deflector, and you've got a direct zone on one side of the EGG for searing, and an indirect zone on the other for roasting.

We've always loved the old EGGspander for exactly this kind of flexibility, and the new kit does the same job with less fuss: fewer pieces to keep track of, and a much easier basket to live with day to day.

You'll notice small feet on this basket. This allows the indirect area to be larger than that of the ConvEGGtor. The feet allow air to raise around all sides. It'll give a more consistent cook as there are no big ceramic feet in the way.

 The lower outer ring is also raised compared to the ConvEGGtor basket, making it less likely the heat deflectors will fall out when you are removing the basket.

What do we love?

• The handles allow you to lift the basket, any surfaces, and your deflector plates out of your Egg quite simply.
• Use one, both, or neither deflector plates giving you much more cooking options than just using a ConvEGGtor.
• The deflector plates will give a larger indirect cooking area with no hot spots.
• There are no ConvEGGtor legs to break off.
• The stainless steel of this unit and the new dual zone cooking grid is much thicker, so will hold more heat and cook better. 
• The simple half moons should be less prone to cracking, and should be easier to store.
• This will eventually come as standard with new Large and XL Big Green Eggs.
• It's compatible with the 2-Piece Multi Level Rack, as well as all the other EGGspander surfaces and the wok.
