Burnt Orange old Fashioned and Twisted Old Fashioned

No ratings yet
Bourbon is synonymous with barbecue, so why not take a bourbon based cocktail, the Old Fashioned, and give it a barbecue twist.
The Old Fashioned traditionally uses a twist of orange peel, here we take the peel and a slice or two of the orange and grill them to burn the edges and add a bit of a barbecue twist.
For those of you who aren't bourbon fans, I've done a second version that uses the orange juice to add sweetness.

  1. Set up your Big Green Egg for a direct cook with the cast iron griddle to about 250°C.
  2. Once the griddle is hot, add the peel and the orange slice.
  3. Sprinkle the orange slice with some sugar which will caramelise.
  4. After about 2 minutes turn and sear the other side. You're looking to burn the peel edges and get a some caramelisation on the slice of orange.
