Mulled Cider

Mulled Cider

What could be nicer while you’re outside cooking in the winter. This mulled rum cider is ‘Christmas in a glass’. The flavours are everything to do with Christmas, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger and apples and oranges.

If you’re not a cider drinker, give this a go anyway as it’s more apple juice than cider, just with a kick of rum.

We absolutely love it.

Ingredients

  • 250ml cider – I use Thatchers Gold. Open a can and treat yourself to the remainder
  • 1.25 litres fresh cloudy apple juice
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
  • 5 or 6 cloves
  • 1 stick of cinnamon (4 inchs)
  • 1 or 2 apples sliced into wedges
  • 1 orange sliced into wedges
  • 250ml spiced rum

Equipment

Method

  1. Setup your Egg for a direct cook at 150°C with the stainless steel grid.
  2. Put your cider, apple juice and spices into a pan. I use the Tefal Ingenio stainless steel pans. Give it a stir.
  3. Pop it onto your Egg and heat up, but don’t boil it.
  4. Take it off the Egg and add your fruit slices and the rum.
  5. Serve into glasses or if you’re a BBQ hipster, jam jars!
